A 30-second check, right now, without changing anything:
Is your jaw clenching? Are your shoulders up near your ears? Is your breath high and shallow in your chest, or low and slow in your belly?
Whatever you found isn't a problem to fix. It's information.
Your nervous system lives in one of three states:
• Wired — revved, racing, can't switch off
• Shut down — numb, flat, foggy, going through the motions
• Settled — steady, present, able to actually rest
The reason "just breathe" or "just meditate" can make you feel worse: the practice has to match the state you're in. You can't calm a body that needs to discharge, and you can't energize one by forcing it to relax. First you meet the state. Then you move it.
On The Saturday Reset — free, live, June 20 at 10 AM ET — I'll teach you to read your state in seconds and come back to settled.
